That One Time I Climbed the Same Ladder a Hundred Million Times…in One Day.

Welcome to another post in our spaces series!  If you’d like to see the first post in this series, you can find it HERE.  In this post, I’ll be sharing beautiful pictures of and the story behind The Modern Cozy Place

A QUICK NOTE: If you’re anything like me, learning and growing happens on the go: In between loading the dishwasher, folding laundry and driving to the next appointment. I took the time to create a video of this blog so you can listen on the go and pop in to see photos and resources in the blog post if reading something just doesn’t fit your life right now. I get it and I’m with you! Happy Wholehearted Hosting!

I need to back up a bit, here….

The Modern Cozy Place is a part of The Modern Marquette- a beautiful, modern structure in the heart of downtown Albuquerque.  This property has 3 units all in one building...two smaller loft spaces on the ends (The Modern Southwest Place and The Modern Vintage Place) and one large space in the center:  The Modern Cozy Place.  This one had three loft areas and two separate living areas with a long kitchen and private patio...really something.  One of my favorite features was the tiny loft space that we turned into a little sitting spot.  So cute!

It all started with the paint color.  I was finishing up The Modern Southwest Place when I was thrust into making some big decisions about The Modern Cozy Place...and this paint color ended up being just perfect.  I’m sad to say...I don’t even remember what it was called.  I know it was Sherwin Williams, but the name is a blur.  Sorry, friends. But man was it just right!

A couple weeks after picking the paint color, I was shopping for wall decor pieces and came across a beautiful piece at Target in the Studio McGee Threshold line.  Would you believe that the green in that piece ended up being the exact green I had on the walls in The Modern Cozy Place?  Wild, I know.  And so that piece became the guidepost for the entire space.  We went with warm, cozy colors...soft, comfortable fabrics and a breezy feel throughout.  It was absolutely perfect.

The art piece above the dresser, which sit in the master loft, became the inspiration piece for the whole space.Notice how the paint color accents it perfectly!

The Master Loft

The master loft space sits above the main living area.  A queen bed and dresser complete this area.  And just like all my other bedroom spaces...there’s a bed, a side table, a place to store clothing and a comfy chair to sit in.  Check-check-check.  The wall decor and little touches really complete this little loft, right?

The Living Area

The living area was made complete with my husband’s help.  He crafted massive floating shelves that we mounted high on the wall to expertly accent the vaulted ceilings.  With some thoughtful styling, they really set this space apart.  And in case you’re wondering where the title of this post comes in….this is it. Friends, I climbed a ladder to those shelves one hundred million times that day (well, I may be exaggerating just a bit *wink, wink). My WHOLE BODY hurt me for DAYS….but it was totally worth it! They made the most amazing statement and were jaw dropping. Yep, worth it.

The floor to ceiling windows look out on the private patio, which has stairs that lead to another private rooftop patio.  I mean. Come on, right?

The Kitchen

The kitchen is long and narrow and BIG. With high ceilings and cute landings on all four corners of the cabinets, I couldn’t wait to design adorable vignettes on each perch. It all came together to create a functional, homey kitchen. The windows looked out on the private patio and let in a ton of natural light.

The Bathroom

The bathroom has a large soaking tub and a private patio of its own. Lots of natural light and plenty of space. I completed the countertop with a lamp, because I’m of the opinion that every bathroom should have a lamp. Who’s with me?

The Second Loft and Dining Area

The second loft houses a double full-size bunk bed with a pull out twin.  There’s a comfy bench to sit on and a small dresser and cabinet for clothing storage.  Below that space, guests can enjoy a meal around a cute little table and this area also has the sweetest tiny loft space.  As I mentioned earlier, we set it up as a sitting area.  I still regret never climbing up there with a good book...it’s the perfect reading spot.

There are more floor to ceiling windows looking out on the private patio from the dining room.  I used yellow to accent throughout and tie the separate spaces together.  It provided a fun pop of color in the sea of cool greens and blues.

When we opened this space up to guests, the reviews said it all.  People loved staying here and I loved sharing it with the world.

I no longer host The Modern Cozy Place, or any of the spaces in The Modern Marquette.  I will forever be grateful for what I learned and how I grew in this season...for the guests we hosted and the way it ended.  All perfectly timed for everyone’s good.
