The AirBnB Loft that Started it All

A QUICK NOTE: If you’re anything like me, learning and growing happens on the go: In between loading the dishwasher, folding laundry and driving to the next appointment. I took the time to create a video of this blog so you can listen on the go and pop in to see photos and resources in the blog post if reading something just doesn’t fit your life right now. I get it and I’m with you! Happy Wholehearted Hosting!

The beauty of FIRST.

Isn’t there just something so sacred about FIRST? Some of the firsts I hold dear: First time I held my sweet baby boy, first time my husband kissed me, first backpacking adventure, first ride in my very own kayak, first time I drove without my parents in the passenger’s seat, first night in a dorm room, first night in our first home.  The list goes on and on and on…and one of my favorite firsts is the first AirBnB I designed:  The Modern Southwest Place

A Roadmap Taking Shape - The Upstairs Loft

If you’re curious about how I got the chance to design this amazing space, you’ll get all the details in this post.  I’ll just pick up where that post left off.  I guess the first step was probably deciding how the design would come to life.  If I’m honest, each space kind of guides me through this process.  With its high vaulted ceilings, amazing natural light, concrete floors and loft space…and the ABQ vibes of the trending downtown culture…it quickly took on a modern southwest feel.

Although I didn’t know it at the time, a set of guidelines, a roadmap, quickly appeared for me.  The same guidelines that I’ve followed for all 20 spaces. Bedrooms should have cozy beds with luxurious sheets and amazing pillows.  There should always be a table beside the bed to put something hot and sweet to sip on and a bedside lamp is a must for reading and writing.  There should be a place to put clothes and a chair to sit on. Preferably, that chair has something beside it to hold a cute plant…and something sweet and hot to sip on.

And, of course, there should be beautiful things hanging on the walls…how else does a space wrap us up and feel like home?

These guiding principles created the loft in The Modern Southwest Place.

The First Floor

The downstairs area needed a great spot to sit and enjoy a good movie- preferably something that would convert to another bed, in case that was needed by our guests.  More pretty things on the walls and a small table in the corner to sit and enjoy a meal…or work on something that lights you up.  Check!  That completed the living and dining spaces.

A small kitchen with a stove, microwave, coffee maker and all the things a person might need to make a yummy meal.  It may be small, but it’s mighty!  And the space if finished off with a full bathroom.  A bath/shower combo and there’s a washer and dryer in the bathroom too!

All these little pieces came together to create an amazing experience for our guests at The Modern Southwest Place.

This loft will forever be my firstborn AirBnB.

It was the launching pad for the life I live today and for that I will forever be grateful.
