The Beginning of Alamo Dwellings: The Story of Unit C

Hi there!  Welcome!  If you’re brand new here...what an honor!  If you’ve been popping in to read all about the spaces I’ve designed and hosted, so glad you’re back!  We have a lot of fun here and I’m so glad everyone jumps in when they’re able to.  So fun!

Today, I’ll be sharing all about Alamo Dwelling Unit C.  But FIRST...we must talk about the location of Alamo Dwellings.  These super cute little spaces are nestled into the beautiful North Valley of Albuquerque, New Mexico.  There’s a laundry facility on site and there’s super easy access to just about anything you’d want to do!  Restaurants, shopping, site-seeing...and their greatest perk is how close they are to the International Balloon Fiesta field….like minutes!

The first space I got the honor of designing at Alamo Dwellings was Unit C.  This cute one bedroom, one bathroom space was a lot of fun to put together!  The owner of the space took me along for furniture shopping and we selected the super comfy sofa and a midcentury modern-ish bedroom set from CORT FurnitureIf you’ve got a furniture rental store in your area, that’s a great place to seek lightly used furniture that’s well priced!

Are you ready for the full tour? Let’s do it!

LIVING ROOM

When you walk in the door of this unit, you step right into the living room. The sofa is so comfy and the pillows make it simply irresistible! I went with bright, fun and unexpected design touches in this space. I loved the way the wall decor came together above the sofa. So fun! That mirror with the string of wooden “WELCOME” flags across it. Perfect.

The rug in the living room came from Costco.  For real...if you ever get a chance to take advantage of Costco’s rug events...they have amazing prices on the best rugs!  Your toes completely sink into this rug.  It’s divine.

We did a wall-mounted SmartTV here and my husband built this super simple piece under the TV.  A few cute and eclectic pieces here and there and this living room was ready to go!

KITCHEN

There was very limited countertop space in this cute little kitchen, so I quickly realized I would need a spot for the microwave.  I found this retro, mid-century modern piece at my favorite local flea market and it was perfect!  Snuggled in right next to the refrigerator...just right!

Colorful, quirky wall and countertop decor completed this kitchen space.  And of course, the cabinets are full of all a guest would need to prepare a meal.

BEDROOM

Back out into the living room and to the left, you find the bedroom.  The closet in this bedroom was HUGE and we actually put a rollaway bed in there in case extra sleeping arrangements were needed.  More fun, unexpected colors and design touches.  The queen bed just barely fit, but it fit!  We ended up putting a foam topper from Target on this bed...the mattress we got from Cort Furniture was not super comfortable.  But once we got the topper in place, it was just right!

BATHROOM

I think this is my favorite shower curtain EVER.  In fact...I had been eyeing this one at Target for months and it was so exciting to have a space where it would be just perfect!  In case you don’t know this about me:  I love plants.  In fact, I wish every single space I design could have live plants incorporated...but I know they would likely die.  So I don’t do it.  But I go out of my way to incorporate the feeling of plants as much as possible.  And oh boy...does this shower curtain accomplish that goal!

THAT’S A WRAP

And that’s Alamo Dwellings Unit C!  What do you think?  Is this a space you’d book for a stay in Albuquerque for the International Balloon Fiesta?  So fun!

Stay tuned, friend. We’ll do Alamo Dwellings Unit D next!  This one’s fun.  I got to get back to my Farmhouse Style roots!
